back tack
My back tack sender (sending me the final notions holder) emailed me the following questions, which I though I would answer here:
I know you knit, but do you: sew? quilt? crochet? bead? Do any other crafts?
I would say that I pretty much do all crafts. If I don't currently do it, I probably have or have thought about it (or just not been introduced to it). I just got my first very own sewing machine and I love it. I would say that I primarily sew and knit, but I do occasionally bead, cross-stitch and embroider. I'm working on figuring out scrapbooking, but that is slow-going. In the meantime I have been making some cards and stuff using some of the scrapbooking paper. I really want to try embellishing stationary with my sewing machine.
What kind of notions or tools do you need better storage for?
hhmmm.. This is sort of a tough question. I need storage for everything! I think in particular, I need better storage for my circular needles. I primarily use my Denise Interchangeable set for everything, except when I need a needle size that is not in the set (ie. very small or very large). As of right now, I have 4 sets of circular needles and 3 sets of straights floating around. Maybe something for my stitch markers, cable needles, stitch counters and other knitting accessories would be good. As far as sewing goes, I could use portable storage for the hand sewing stuff I use for projects in progress. I do most of my work on the couch in front of the tv, but occasionally I like to mix it up and move to the bedroom. Or sometimes I have to clean off the coffee table. Keeping track of and picking up all the needles, pins and threads of various kind can get a bit crazy.
What kind of notions or tools or materials (yarn, fabric) you want to try?
Usually I will read about something somewhere and have to have it right then and there, which sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. I really love all of the fun fabric that people are finding (like the retro prints and flower prints, etc). When I was shopping for the back tack fabric to send off, I understood how people can be so excited about finding nice fabrics in cool prints. I would have no idea what to do with them though once I had them... As far as yarn goes, I would like to try some of the bulky yarns from handpaintedyarn.com. I've heard that it makes a good substitute for the Blue Sky Alpacas bulky yarn. And in the knitting notions category, I want to try some of the Blue Sky Alpacas Hand Balm (I'm thinking of sending some to my back tack recipient. ssshhhh....) I'm sure there are tons of other stuff that I want to try, but I can't think of them right now. There's probably lots of neat stuff that I've never even heard of too!
What notions/tools do you already love and want more of?
I love my stitch counter, but I don't really need to many more of those. Unless they're the kind that hang down off of the needle instead of being inline with the needle. I keep misplacing the (barrel-type) stitch counter I'm using for the hush-hush I'm working on because it's too big to fit on the needle between any of the stitches. I also love the stitch markers I made that I'm currently using. They really make life a lot easier. I definitely want some more in a larger size, since the ones I'm currently using a for size 4 needles and smaller. Oh and I don't have one yet, but I would love a pin cushion!
What are your favorite colors/color combos? (Of course I'm already bound somewhat by the materials that got sent to me, but maybe I can influence the final product ...)
My favorite colors are probably that olive-green/avocado sort of color that is popping up everywhere these days. It's hard to describe, but you've probably seen it everywhere. I like bold color combinations that are a little off (darker maybe is what I mean?) from your standard primary colors. I'm not into pastels at all unless they are paired with something non-pastel or a fun print. I like fun/whimsical prints (at least for this project). I would say that I'm pretty much up for anything except the pastels. Oh and pink - especially pepto-bismol pink.
I hope all of this helps you a little!

I don't have an email address for you, so this will have to do. I received your backtack package on Saturday! Wow! Everything is so beautiful and useful, I can't tell you how much I love it. Your workmanship is lovely and the pincushion is one of the cutest things I have ever seen :o)
There will be more gushing on my site when I'm able to post an entry and get some good pictures of everything, and while gushing can sometimes sound insincere, believe me, I mean every word of it!
